Taking Control of Anxiety

Free yourself from AnxietyWHAT IS ANXIETY:

A feeling of worry, nervousness, fear, apprehension or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety affects our whole being, including how we feel, how we act, the decisions we make and has very real physical symptoms.  It can effect children and adults alike, it effects males and females.

Anxiety is a term used to describe the bodies fight or flight response to its perceived dangers. Anxiety may be something that you feel all the time or it might just arise in certain situations or circumstances eg public speaking, going to the dentist, dealing with conflict, social situations, at work or at home etc.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF ANXIETY:

Anxiety can be caused by worry over the past or the future as it cannot exist in the present moment. Anxiety is often triggered by stress in our lives or a stressful situation. Anxiety can be our body’s way of saying “something is not right” and “listen to me.” If these warning signs go left unacknowledged, the body then has to think of a more obvious cry for help – for example unexplained pain in our bodies.

Research has shown there are 4 main biological causes of anxiety are chemical imbalances, hormones, genetics and conditioning. Those suffering from anxiety often have issues with several neurotransmitters (brain chemicals), including serotonin, norepinephrine and GABA. Basically the chemicals that cause stress overpower the chemicals that prevent stress. These chemicals also play a role in sleep, mood, and emotional stability
